This story has a map. Tap to see itA new iron and steel complex is planned at Aïn El Bia in the wilaya of Oran. The state released about 153 hectares of farmland for it in June.
Executive decree 26-227 of 9 June 2026 removed 152.9 hectares of agricultural land from farm use and assigned it to the Ministry of Mines for the project.
The complex adds to Algeria's steel industry, which includes the Tosyali plant at nearby Bethioua. Tosyali has received iron ore from the Gara Djebilet mine since February 2026.
An article in El Moudjahid on 16 August described the project as part of a plan to build a complete steel industry and sell to African markets.
