About Oran
Oran is a wilaya, or province, on the Mediterranean coast of western Algeria, 432 km from Algiers. It borders the wilayas of Mostaganem, Mascara, Sidi Bel Abbès and Aïn Témouchent. Its main city, Oran, is called El Bahia, "the Radiant". The name Wahran is usually linked to the Arabic word wahr, "lion". The wilaya had 1,454,078 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS), the third largest population of any wilaya.
