About Hassi Bounif
Hassi Bounif lies about 15 km east of Oran, on the road to Mostaganem, in the daira, or district, of Bir El Djir. It had 59,671 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS). The colonial name was Assi-Bou-Nif. Hassi means "well" in Arabic, and wells of drinking water were one reason the site was chosen. The commune includes the village of Hassi Ameur and the Hassi Ameur industrial zone.
