Sidi Chami is a commune of the daira, or district, of Es Sénia and had 104,498 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS). The name is also written Sidi Chahmi or Sidi ech Chahmi. Besides the town, the commune includes Sidi Maarouf and El Emir Abdelkader, the former Saint-Rémy.
