About El Kerma
El Kerma is a commune of the daira, or district, of Es Sénia and had 23,163 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS). The name El Kerma means "the fig tree". The place was first called Le Figuier, then became the colonial village of Valmy, and took the name El Kerma at independence. The commune includes the locality of El Hamoul.
