About Tlemcen
The wilaya of Tlemcen lies in the far north-west of Algeria, on the Mediterranean coast and the border with Morocco. Its neighbours include the wilayas of Aïn Témouchent and Sidi Bel Abbès. In Roman times the post of Pomaria stood on the site of Tlemcen, its capital. It is wilaya number 13. In 2026 part of it became the wilaya of El Aricha. Before that it had 53 communes in 20 dairas, and 949,135 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
