About Nelson Mandela Stadium

A modern football stadium in Baraki with more than 40,000 seats, named after the African leader Nelson Mandela. Visitors appreciate its design, the good view from every seat and the lively match atmosphere.

The Stade Nelson Mandela, long known as the Stade de Baraki, is a football stadium with 40,784 seats. The Chinese contractor China Railway Engineering Corporation built it, and the work ended in 2022. The site also has a second training pitch and parking for 2,534 vehicles.

In December 2022 the national commission for naming stadiums gave the new stadium the name of Nelson Mandela. Mandela's first official visit abroad as president was to Algeria.

The stadium opened in January 2023 with a friendly match between Algeria and Ghana, which ended without goals. On 13 January 2023 it hosted the opening match of the 2022 African Nations Championship, Algeria against Libya. The final of the tournament was also played there.
