A university on Rue Didouche Mourad in Alger-Centre, founded in 1909 and the oldest in Algeria. It has a library, many lecture halls and laboratories.
A law of 20 December 1879 created the higher schools of Algiers, and a law of 30 December 1909 made them the University of Algiers. The University of Algiers 1 Benyoucef Benkhedda gives 1909 as its founding year and has its address at 2 rue Didouche Mourad.
