Food
The best known street food is karantika, a baked chickpea flour flan served hot. Its name comes from the Spanish caliente, "hot". Other local dishes include créponne, a lemon sorbet, mouna, a brioche, paella and berkoukes, small pasta pearls in a red sauce.
Fish restaurants line the beach of Aïn El Turk. Clementines were first obtained in the orphanage nursery at Misserghin, and the fruit was named after Brother Clement.

The designer Yves Saint Laurent was born in Oran. The independence fighter Ahmed Zabana was raised in the El Hamri and Mdina Jdida quarters of the city.
