Thousands of housing units were handed over in western and south-western wilayas on 1 November, the 72nd anniversary of the start of the Revolution of Liberation.

Echaab Online reported that the ceremonies began at martyrs' cemeteries. Civil and military local authorities, members of the revolutionary family and civil society took part in raising the national flag, hearing the national anthem and laying wreaths.

The handovers included public rental housing, supported promotional housing and rural housing grants.

According to the report, the number of units handed over in each wilaya ranged from about 1,000 to 5,000.

Of these, 1,097 units are public rental housing, 878 are supported promotional housing and 282 are free promotional housing.

A project to strengthen the A2 motorway over 15.3km, between Aïn Smara commune and Zouaghi Slimane district, was also launched.

On the evening of 31 October, the fifth Sirta Cinema Days, called "Sini-Sirta", opened in Constantine. The event's theme is "Amateur Cinema: The Other Memory of Algerian Cinema".

Roads, health and disability support

In Oran, the first section of public lighting on the fourth ring road was brought into service over 7km in both directions.

The second section, 5km long, is due to be handed over by the end of November or early December at the latest, according to the wilaya's director of public works.

In Relizane, the surgical emergency and radiology departments at the Mohamed Boudiaf public hospital reopened on Sunday, after renovation work was completed.

The hospital also received new equipment: an MRI scanner (magnetic resonance imaging), a CT scanner (computed tomography) and a breast X-ray machine.
