Trade rose from about 139m dollars in 2024, and both sides want to widen their economic cooperation.

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb said in Algiers on Monday that trade between Algeria and the Czech Republic reached nearly 323m dollars in 2025.

Algérie Eco reported that the business forum took place in Algiers and was co-chaired by Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis. The forum aimed to widen economic cooperation between the two countries.

The prime minister said trade had grown in recent years, from about 139m dollars in 2024. He said the figures remain below what the two economies could achieve.

"These results, however important they are, remain below the available potential and the common ambitions," the prime minister said.

He added that the structure of trade does not yet reflect the wide range of opportunities that joint economic cooperation could offer. He called for more joint initiatives and for new areas of cooperation to be identified.

He pointed to the strengths of Algeria's economy and resources, and to the industrial and technological skills of the Czech Republic. He said the two could build partnerships and joint projects with high added value.

The prime minister named several areas open to new Czech investment. They are industry, the car industry, agriculture and food, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, mining, tourism, fishing, and the digital economy and information and communication technologies.

For Algerians, the list shows the sectors that the national economic development strategy treats as priorities. For Czech companies and readers abroad, it shows where new investment is being invited.

Ghrieb also said that reforms carried out under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune aim to strengthen the economy, improve the business climate and encourage investment.

Babis said Algeria is the largest country in Africa and a dynamic, fast-growing market. He said it is one of his country's main partners in North Africa and the Mediterranean, and a strategic partner in connecting Europe and Africa.

The prime minister said the relations go back to Czechoslovakia's support for Algeria's Revolution of National Liberation. He said they grew after independence in several fields, including the economy.
