The Algiers Metro went back to its normal timetable of 5 am to 10 pm from 1 September. The network is going through its largest maintenance programme since it opened in 2011.

The operator SEMA, which runs the metro under the name Métro El Djazaïr, announced the change on Monday 31 August. During the summer, trains ran until 11 pm every day and until midnight at weekends.

In mid-September the operator said the main line between Place des Martyrs and El Harrach Centre would reopen in the coming days after several weeks of works. The branch to Aïn Naâdja kept running through Haï El Badr station.
