Trains still run between 1er Mai and Place des Martyrs, and on two other routes from Haï El Badr, according to Algérie 360.

Six stations on Line 1 of the Algiers metro were closed on Sunday, 1 November, after a technical fault on the line.

Algérie 360 reported that the closed stations are Mer et Soleil, Amirouche, Les Fusillés, Jardin d'Essai, Hamma and Aïssat Idir.

According to the same report, the incident was not a planned operation but an unexpected technical fault.

The Algiers Metro Operating Company (SEMA) has given passengers details of the disruption and of the routes still open.

Trains still run between 1er Mai station and Place des Martyrs, so people can still reach central Algiers from that part of the line.

Two other services still run from Haï El Badr, one to El Harrach and one to Aïn Naâdja.

Passengers need to find other ways to travel, avoiding the closed stations, and use the three sections that still run.

The section between Amirouche and Haï El Badr had already been the subject of night work on the tracks in September, as part of the last phase of a large renovation project.

Repair teams have been sent to find the cause of the fault and to return the line to working order.

The operator apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and thanked them for their patience.

The operator has not given a date for the line to return to normal.
